Water in the Drought

Everywhere you go people are talking about the drought. It is saddening to see the fields of brown, shiveled¬†beans and corn where green should be. But it makes me think of a more serious drought than even this- the drought of the soul. When we do not allow the loving, saving grace of Jesus Christ to rain into our lives, our spirits experience the leaf curling, wilting drought of the this world. What am I do ? I wonder. The Spirit leads to the Word and I read of the person described in (NIV) Psalm 1:1-3 “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by the streams of water, which yields fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.¬†Whatever he does prospers.” I am called to be that tree planted by the stream of living water, drawing sustenance and vitality from its banks. Drinking in the Word at the very root of my soul so I can grow nearer to the image of who I am called to be. Holy, Lord, I dedicate this day to You, drawing a full measure of whatever You have in store for me. Lord, let me be like a tree planted by the water, vibrant and green in your holy love so that I can bring the relief of shade to someone else in the scorching sun of life. I love you, Jesus. Amen
